How did the deficit get so bad?

The left-wing media promotes obama's claim
that the entire deficit problem is something that he inherited from Bush.

But take a look at the facts:

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress. And it was the democrat party that controlled Congress since January 2007. Furthermore, the democrats controlled the budget process for fiscal years 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.

In 2007, democrats had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush, admittedly, somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

However, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed President Bush entirely by passing continuing resolutions to keep government spending until obama could take office. Then, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the fiscal year 2009 budgets. During this time, obama was a member of the congress that passed all of those massive spending bills, and he then signed the omnibus bill as president to complete fiscal year 2009. This chart shows what the deficits looked like during this entire period.

If the democrats inherited any deficit, it was the fiscal year 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets, and that was the lowest deficit in five years and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, democrats in congress, including obama, took control of spending; and obama voted to approve all of those budgets. Therefore, what obama inherited was excessive spending budgets that he inherited it from himself.

In summary, obama inherited a deficit that he voted to approve, and then he voted to expand that deficit by four times what he inherited.
