"Find-it"   . . .   Search and Display utility-app project objectives:

  • To create a utility that would start by clicking on a desktop icon.
  • To have it work on either a Linux or on a Windows desktop computer.
  • Upon clicking on the desktop icon, a small search window would pop-up, as shown below.
  • Two different versions to be built, initially.   Additional variations to be built later.
  • Version #1 would be a dedicated version intended to work only on a pre-specified file.
  • In this case, by entering the name "library," the matching results to be displayed in a new window to open below the search window.
  • In this example, the specified file is a text file containing phone numbers and corresponding names, addresses, and optionally miscellaneous information in a text file with a single line for each entry.
  • One desirable option would be to allow users to either open the subject file in a text editor or append additional entries onto the existing text file.
  • Version #2 would be the same, except it would allow users to either enter a path and filename or "Browse" for a specified file to be searched.

No doubt some discussion will be needed to clarify additional considerations
and I will then update this page as necessary.
